How We Help

Citizens Advice Hull & East Riding

We are an independent, local charity providing free, confidential, and impartial advice to people in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire for more than 85 years. We help people overcome their problems and advocate for change to improve lives.

We provide advice on issues such as:

  • Debt and money
  • Welfare benefits
  • Housing and homelessness
  • Employment rights
  • Energy
  • Consumer issues

We support people face-to-face, by phone, and online.

We use evidence from our clients’ experiences to influence policy and improve services locally and nationally.

Last year, we helped over 24,000 people in Hull and East Riding resolve more than 112,000 issues. For every £1 invested in our services, society benefits by over £20.

In 2024/25, the top issues we helped people with were:

  • Debt
  • Universal Credit
  • Benefits and Tax Credit
  • Financial services & capability

We support the most vulnerable during life’s most difficult moments – reducing pressure on health, social care and local authorities.

Our Commitment to Net Zero

Citizens Advice Hull & East Riding has a forward-thinking Environmental and Sustainability Policy in place. We are committed to sustainable development as a guiding principle within our work. Our aim is to reduce the impact on the environment from our operations. We reduce the use of energy, water and other resources where possible through the encouragement of home working and shared journeys. We minimise our use of paper and are working towards a paper-free office. Another strategy to reduce carbon emissions is through the delivery of telephone advice and digital services. We also work with stakeholders whose aim is to achieve a Net Zero future.
