How We Help

Citizens Advice Hull and East Riding (CAHER)

We are an independent charity working for all the residents of the City of Kingston Upon Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. We have served our local communities for over 82 years. We help people resolve their legal, money, and other problems by providing information, advice, casework, and representation. We strive to reach people as early as possible, providing information and advice before problems develop, increasing knowledge and confidence to tackle difficulties. We support 24,323 people face to face, by phone, e-mail, and web chat and opened 32,444 cases on their behalf. Individuals from across the region sought our help on over 103,000 advice issues. The top 6 issues were:

  • Benefits.
  • Debt.
  • Financial services and capability.
  • Housing, Employment.
  • Relationships and family.

We achieved £18,136,324 of income gain for clients and over 20,600 clients benefit from improved health and capacity to manage. Our Social Return on Investment (SROI) figures for 21/22 show that for every £1 invested in our service we generated:

  • £3.54 in savings to government and financial services (fiscal benefits)
  • £25.22 in wider economic and social benefits (public value)
  • £13.22 in financial value to the people we help

Our Commitment to Net Zero

CAHER has a forward-thinking Environmental and Sustainability Policy in place. We are committed to sustainable development as a guiding principle within our work. Our aim is to reduce the impact on the environment from our operations. We reduce the use of energy, water and other resources where possible through the encouragement of home working and shared journeys. We minimise our use of paper and are working towards a paper-free office. Another strategy to reduce carbon emissions is through the delivery of telephone advice and digital services. We also work with stakeholders whose aim is to achieve a Net Zero future.
