Armed Forces Community and Veterans
Armed Forces Money Advice Project (AFMAP) – Hull and East Riding
We have two Armed Forces Money Advice Projects working across Hull and the East Riding. We have many years of experience delivering our project in Hull, supported by the Hull Military Covenant. In the East Riding, we have secured funding for one year from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
Both projects enable us to give tailored advice and support to serving personnel, veterans and their families. We work with the veteran communities, their families and charities to help meet their needs and enable them to access support. We provide a ‘one stop shop for support, advice and guidance to veterans and their families.
We work very closely with SSAFA, The Army Welfare Services and the Royal British Legion to deliver comprehensive care and support to members of the Armed Forces Community.
Getting Help with Universal Credit
The benefits system can be complex to deal with, and changes to benefits in recent years have left many people not understanding what they are entitled to. This means a lot of people lose out or miss out on money they are legally entitled to.
We can help people with:
- Making benefit claims
- Checking benefit entitlements
- Challenging or appealing decisions
- Dealing with sanctions
- Overpayments
Please remember most benefit decisions have a strict appeal deadline after which you may not be able to challenge a decision.
You will need to bring any relevant DWP or HMRC paperwork with you to an appointment.

If you need help with an armed forces pension a good source of information and advice is the Forces Pension Society, it costs £35 per year but the personal service and support could be invaluable if you have a pension dispute.
