Energy price cap October 2025 – what does it mean for me?
Gas and electricity market regulator OFGEM has announced that from October 2025 the energy price cap will rise by 2%.

This means that for a household that currently pays £142 per month in gas and electricity, they will be paying £145 from October.
The price cap does not control how much you pay for your energy each month – that is based on how much energy you use. Instead, it controls how much your energy company can charge you for each unit (kWh) of energy you use. So to lower your bill, you need to use less energy.
There are options available to help you fix your tariff before the price cap increase, which would mean you are protected against any increases over the next year.
We are expecting another increase in the cap in April 2026, but slight reductions in January and July which sounds very confusing.
