School pupils help celebrate our 85th birthday

Schoolchildren have been helping to celebrate our 85th birthday in style – while learning all about the work done in our communities by our amazing staff and volunteers.

This month, Citizens Advice turns 85, having been set up in the days after the start of the Second World War.

Now the next generation is helping us mark this incredible milestone!

As part of the celebrations, we invited children at schools in Hull and the East Riding to design a poster to mark our 85th anniversary – and after admiring a pile of wonderful entries and a vote by our staff teams on a shortlist of eight designs, a Year 3 pupil at Hunsley Primary has been chosen as the winner.

A winning design

Evelyn’s design uses balloons to highlight key information about our services, and there’s no doubt that all the pupils learned all about what we do and how we do it as part of the process. Their thoughtful designs showcased our work for the whole of society, our status as a charity supported by volunteers at the heart of their communities, our campaigning on key issues and our trusted advice services.

Congratulations Evelyn, and thanks to all who designed posters – all the entries are proudly on display on the walls across our offices in Bridlington, Beverley, Goole and Hull, and we’ll be bringing some treats to Hunsley Primary and a certificate for our star poster designer!

Tracy Wharvell, Chief Executive Officer of Citizens Advice Hull & East Riding, said: “We’re marking our 85th birthday by celebrating our history, but it’s also a great opportunity to look to the future. Our children are the future and it’s so encouraging to see so much awareness and understanding of the work we do in these wonderful poster designs.

“We hope that in a few years some of these children will be working with us, helping people find a way forward working on the issues that affect every single one of us. The future’s in safe hands!”
