#WeAreCitizensAdvice – did you know…
We know that the vast majority of people (98%) have heard of Citizens Advice – but how much do you really know about what we do?
This #WeAreCitizensAdvice week (Sep 1-7, 2025) we’re taking the chance to shout loud and proud about the difference we make for our communities across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.
So, did you know…
#WeAre… an independent local charity
We’ve been providing free, confidential, and impartial advice to people in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire for more than 85 years. We help people overcome their problems and advocate for change to improve lives.

We’re an independent local charity, part of a network of independent charities with national Citizens Advice, working locally and nationally to shape a society that’s fairer for everyone.
Our dedicated staff and army of amazing volunteers give people the knowledge and the confidence they need to find their way forward – whoever they are, and whatever their problem.
Citizens Advice Hull & East Riding provides advice on issues such as:
- Debt and money
- Welfare benefits
- Housing and homelessness
- Employment rights
- Energy
- Consumer issues
We support people face-to-face at our four offices in Beverley, Bridington, Goole and Hull and 35 outreach locations across Hull and the East Riding. We also help people by phone and online.
We use evidence from our clients’ experiences to influence policy and improve services locally and nationally.
And we’re in our communities, taking our advice and volunteering opportunities to local events. We love meeting families from across our region – recently our Energy Team has been enjoying engaging with children about saving energy with colouring competitions, and we’ve loved seeing what they’e come up with!
Meet our senior management team and board of trustees.
#WeAre… making a difference every day

Last year, we helped over 24,000 people in Hull and East Riding resolve more than 112,000 issues. For every £1 invested in our services, society benefits by over £20. Every day, we make life-changing differences to our clients.
In 2024/25, the top issues we helped people with were:
- Debt
- Universal Credit
- Benefits and Tax Credit
- Financial services & capability
We saved housing providers more than £2.7m by preventing evictions, and nearly £1.7m for the NHS by reducing the use of mental health and GP services and keeping people in work.

We’re often the first place people turn to in a crisis. We give people the knowledge and confidence to find a way forward – whoever they are, and whatever the problem.
We ensure that the voice of our community is heard and that real change can be achieved. We do this by recording the problems our community faces and regularly feeding our clients’ own experiences into national and local campaigns.
We’re trusted, accessible and local, and our services improve financial wellbeing, mental health, and housing stability. This means our unique, real-time data gives a ground-level view of what’s happening in communities across Hull and the East Riding.
#WeAre… so grateful to our amazing volunteers
We couldn’t do what we do without our dedicated army of more than 100 volunteers working across our communities.
Last year, our amazing volunteers donated 912 hours of their dedication and expertise every week to help others.
Their time was worth £1.35m to Citizens Advice, the economy, the NHS and our volunteers themselves.
Our volunteers come from a range of backgrounds and bring with them different skills and experiences. One thing they have in common is that they find volunteering to be enjoyable and rewarding!
