Volunteer Michael’s marathon effort for Citizens Advice
One of our amazing volunteers ran the Manchester Marathon to raise money for Citizens Advice Hull & East Riding.

So far Michael Heng, who has been a volunteer adviser with us in Beverley for nearly three years, has raised £1,400 against his target of £1,000 after finishing in a time of 4 hours 57 minutes – with which he was very happy.
Michael said: “The weather was brilliant for spectators, sunny and bright and warm, but not so good for runners. Great atmosphere, 150,000 spectators. I found the last last 10 km extremely hard, but my 19-year-old son supported me for the last 2.5 km – running and cheering from the pavement and stopped me from having to walk.”
It’s not too late to donate – you can support Michael here!
Reflecting on his fundraising mission for our local charity, Michael said: “We are blessed to live in a society that promotes justice and fairness, yet many of us remain unaware of the support available until we face challenges. Citizens Advice is an incredible resource that helps individuals navigate these complexities, offering vital information and compassionate assistance through various channels. For nearly three years, I have volunteered with Citizens Advice Hull and East Riding, dedicating my time to ensure that others can access the help they need.”
He added: “I would like to give a shout-out to the many people who have contributed to my marathon journey.
“To my wife Mina and the many hours over the years that she has put up with my running, to my sons Josh and Tim and their encouragement, to my running friend from school David Jenkins and the Saturday mornings spent running in muddy cross country fields, to teachers Mr Powys and Mr Powell, the group of four who made a tipsy pact one New Year’s Eve to run our first 10K about 10 years ago – James Chatfield, Kevin Priday, Sarah Downes, and many other runners through family, church and work who have inspired me through the years – my ‘running uncle’, Jeremy Yen, Chris Peach, Andy Kernaghan, Richard and Sue Foster, Sophie Harrison.”
